Community Guidelines
Last updated October 1, 2026
HypeLap exists so runners feel backed by people who care. A cheer in your earbuds at mile five can change your race, so we protect that. These guidelines apply to everything you send or upload: sound cheers, typed messages, voice notes, names, characters and photos. They are part of our Terms of Use.
The spirit of it
Cheer the way you would want to be cheered when you are tired, out of breath and giving it everything. Be warm, be specific, be brief.
Do
- Encourage. Name the runner, mention the mile, say what you are proud of.
- Be funny, be loud, be silly, and keep it kind.
- Keep voice notes short (15 seconds) and clear.
- Use the name you want the runner to see. Real first names are great.
- Tell us when something is wrong.
Don't
- No harassment, bullying, hate or threats. No slurs, no attacks on someone's body, ability, race, religion, gender, sexuality, age or anything else about who they are.
- No sexual or violent content, and nothing that glorifies harm to yourself or others.
- No spam or flooding. Do not send dozens of cheers in a row or recordings meant to startle, distract or hurt someone's ears. Loud is fine when it is a cheer. It is not fine when it is an attack.
- No impersonation. Do not pretend to be someone else or a company.
- No sharing other people's information: watch links, locations, phone numbers or photos without their permission.
- No cheating. Do not fake your location or tamper with rankings.
- No illegal content or activity, and no ads or promotions.
For runners
- Only share your watch link with people you want watching. Your link shows your rank, distance, pace and progress, never a map.
- You are in control. Mute a fan, block a fan, or turn on “Only my squad” to hear only your people. You can turn voice cheers off in your earbuds.
- Keep the volume at a level that lets you hear traffic and race officials.
- Photos and names you upload must be yours to use and must follow these guidelines.
Reporting and blocking
You can report any cheer, voice note, name or photo from inside HypeLap, or email hello@hypelap.com with the subject “Report”. Include what happened, when, and the race if you can. We review reports promptly and aim to act within 24 hours. Reports are confidential: we do not tell the person who sent the content who reported it. If you or someone else is in danger, call local emergency services first.
What happens when rules are broken
- We remove content that breaks these rules.
- We may warn, mute, suspend or permanently ban the user, close their watch links, or block them from sending cheers, depending on how serious it is. Serious or repeated abuse means a permanent ban.
- We may report illegal activity to the authorities.
- If you think we got it wrong, reply to our message or email us and we will take another look.
