Privacy Policy

HypeLap lets runners share a live link to their race so friends can watch and cheer. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It covers the HypeLap iPhone and Apple Watch apps, the spectator web page, and hypelap.com.
The short version
- We don't sell your data and we don't run ads. No advertising trackers, no data brokers.
- Friends never see a map or your coordinates. They see your name or character, rank, distance, pace and progress on a track, and only while your watch link is open.
- Your Health and fitness data is yours. We never use it for advertising or marketing, and we never sell it.
- Watching and cheering needs no account. Runners sign in with Apple.
- You can delete your account and everything attached to it. See Delete your account.

What we collect
If you are a runner

If you watch and cheer as a friend
- Nothing is required. You do not need an account.
- If you send a cheer: the cheer itself (sound, typed message or voice note), the optional name you type, and a random identifier created for your browser so the runner can mute or block you. The identifier and your name are saved in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie.
- Voice notes: your microphone is used only while you hold the record button. The recording is sent only when you press Send.
- Your IP address is processed to prevent spam and abuse (for example, rate limits).
Everyone
- Technical logs such as IP address, device type and timestamps, used to run, secure and troubleshoot the service. Watch links are treated as secrets: our logs are set up not to record them.
- Website analytics: hypelap.com uses Cloudflare's privacy-focused web analytics to count visits. It does not use cookies or follow you across other sites.
- Messages you send us at hello@hypelap.com, which we receive in our email inbox.
What friends can see
Anyone who has your watch link can see your name or character, your rank, distance, pace, time and progress on a track, and the cheer feed, until your race ends or you turn the link off. They never see a map, your coordinates or where you started. Treat your link like a key: share it only with people you want watching. Other runners in the same race can see your name or character and your position on the track.
How we use it
- To provide HypeLap: live tracking, rankings, cheers, group races, your history and recaps.
- To send notifications you asked for, such as a friend's cheer or the start of a group race.
- To keep the service safe: preventing spam and abuse, and reviewing messages and voice notes that are reported.
- To process purchases and restore subscriptions.
- To fix bugs and improve reliability. We do not use your personal information for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
Apple Health and location
With your permission HypeLap reads your heart rate and saves your race to Apple Health as a workout with its route. You control this in the Health app and in Settings, and you can turn it off at any time. HypeLap does not use Health data for advertising or marketing, does not sell it, and does not share it with data brokers or advertising platforms. Health data stays on your device and in Apple Health, except for the numbers needed for your race recap (distance, pace and time), which are stored with your race results.
Location is used for the race you start. It is read in the background while a race runs so tracking continues when your screen is locked, and it stops when the race ends.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the people you choose (friends with your link) and with service providers who process it for us under their own privacy terms:

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or in a merger or sale of the business (we would tell you and your choices would still apply). We do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How long we keep it

Backups may keep deleted data for a short additional period before they are overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- Permissions: turn location, microphone, notifications and Health access on or off in your device Settings.
- Mute, block and report: runners can mute or block any fan, and anyone can report a message or voice note.
- Access, correction and export: ask us for a copy of your data or to fix it.
- Delete: delete your account and data any time. See Delete your account.
- Opt out of marketing: we only email you about your account or about something you asked us. There is nothing to opt out of for advertising because we do not do it.
Email hello@hypelap.com to use any of these. We may need to verify it is you. We will not discriminate against you for using your rights.
California, Texas and international users
California and other US states. You may have the right to know, access, correct, delete and port your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising. We collect the categories listed in the tables above (identifiers, account details, location, health and fitness information, user content and purchase information) for the purposes described. You can appeal a decision by replying to our response. You can use these rights through an authorized agent.
European Economic Area and United Kingdom. Our legal bases are: providing the service you asked for (contract), your consent for precise location, microphone, Health access and notifications (you can withdraw it any time in Settings), and our legitimate interests in security, abuse prevention and improving reliability. You can object to processing, request restriction, and complain to your local data protection authority. Our servers are in the United States; where required we rely on appropriate safeguards for transfers.
Children
HypeLap is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it. Runners under 18 should use HypeLap with a parent's or guardian's permission, and should only share links with people they know.
Security
We use encryption in transit, private storage for voice notes with short-lived access links, hashed and expiring session tokens, secret watch links, and rate limits. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
