Live race tracking your friends will actually use
Last updated October 3, 2026
HypeLap tracks you with your own iPhone or Apple Watch and gives friends one link to watch your rank, pace and progress live, from any phone, with no app and no account. They can also send air horns, cowbells and voice notes that play in your earbuds mid-race.
How live race tracking works
You start your race from your Apple Watch or phone. HypeLap sends your distance and pace as you run, so the page your friends open updates every few seconds. Because it uses your own GPS, it works at any race, including small local ones that official timing apps never cover.
- Pick a race, paste any sign-up link, or create a group race
- Text your watch link to friends and family
- Start from your wrist and run, your crew sees you climb the rankings
- The link closes automatically when your race ends
Why not just share a location pin?
A pin shows a dot on a map. It tells a spectator where you are, not how your race is going, and it hands out your exact location. HypeLap shows rank, distance, pace and progress on a track. Friends never see a map or your coordinates.
Cheers in your ears
Spectators send sound cheers, short messages and 15-second voice notes. They play over your music in your earbuds right when you need them. You can mute or block any fan, or limit it to your squad.
Apple Watch first
Start, run and finish from your Apple Watch with the phone in your pocket. Your live ranking also appears on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Races save to Apple Health with the route when you finish.
Questions
Does live race tracking work at any race?
Yes. HypeLap tracks you with your own phone or Apple Watch, so the race organizer does not have to be involved. Houston races are listed in the app, and you can paste any sign-up link or create your own group race.
Do my friends need to download anything?
No. They open your link in the browser on any iPhone, Android phone or computer and can watch and cheer for free.
Is it accurate?
It uses the same GPS as any running app. Tall buildings and tunnels can add error, and an Apple Watch gives the best accuracy. Your official time always comes from the race organizer.
Does it show my location on a map?
No. Friends see rank, distance, pace and progress on a track, never a map.
