Report abuse or a safety problem

Offensive cheer, voice note, name or photo? Someone misusing your link?

Email hello@hypelap.com with the subject “Report”. We aim to review reports within 24 hours. You can also report from inside the app.

To help us help you, include: your iPhone model and iOS version, your Apple Watch model (if you use one), the app version (shown at the bottom of Settings in the app), what you expected and what happened, and the time of the race if it was a tracking problem. Please do not send passwords, and do not post your watch link publicly.

Getting started

Do I need an account?

Runners sign in with Apple. Friends who watch and cheer do not need an account or an app: they open your link on any phone.

How do I start a race?

Pick your race in the Races tab, or paste a sign-up link, or create your own group race. Tap the bolt button to start on your phone, or tap Start on your Apple Watch. Your phone can stay in your pocket.

Does it work at any race?

Yes. HypeLap tracks you with your own phone or Apple Watch, so the race organizer does not need to be involved. If a race is not listed, paste its sign-up link or create a group race.

Is HypeLap free?

Watching and cheering is always free. Runners start with a free trial, then HypeLap Pro. See the pricing on the home page.

During a race

Why is my distance or pace slightly different from my watch or another app?

GPS differs between devices and the tracking uses the same filters on iPhone and Apple Watch. Tall buildings, tunnels and tree cover can add error. Use an Apple Watch for the best accuracy, and let GPS settle for 10 to 20 seconds before the gun.

Tracking stopped when I locked my phone.

Open Settings, then HypeLap, then Location, and choose “While Using the App” or “Always”. Keep Precise Location on, and turn off Low Power Mode and Background App Refresh restrictions for the race. Start the race with the app open.

My rank looks wrong.

Rankings are by distance from each runner's own start, so they can differ from the clock at the gun. A runner whose phone lost signal is shown as paused until it reconnects.

Will it drain my battery?

GPS tracking uses battery like any running app. The Apple Watch can run a whole race without your phone. Turning on Low Power Mode on the phone helps if the Watch is tracking.

I lost signal. Did I lose my race?

No. HypeLap keeps your run on your device and uploads it when your connection returns. Your friends may see a pause in the meantime.

Friends and watch links

How do friends watch me?

Tap Share my race link on your race page and send it by message. Friends open it on any phone. No app and no account are needed.

A friend says my link doesn't work.

Links close when your race ends, and at most 24 hours after the scheduled start. Make sure the friend opens the whole link, including the part after the question mark, and ask them to try a different browser if needed. You can send a new link from your race page.

Can strangers see where I am?

No. Friends never see a map or your coordinates, only your rank, distance, pace and progress on a track. Only share your link with people you want watching.

How do sound and voice cheers work?

Friends tap an air horn, cowbell or other sound, type a message, or hold the mic to record up to 15 seconds. They play in your earbuds over your music. You can mute or block any fan at any time.

My friend can't record a voice note.

Their browser must allow the microphone. On iPhone use Safari, and on Android use Chrome. They need to allow microphone access when asked, and hold the mic button while speaking.

Apple Watch

The Watch app says Phone linked is off.

The Watch can track a race on its own. The phone link only mirrors the race on your phone. Check Bluetooth and that both devices are signed in, then open HypeLap on the phone once.

Does it save to Apple Health?

Yes, if you allow it. Your race is saved as a workout with its route when you finish. If you declined, turn on access in the Health app, then Sharing, then Apps, then HypeLap.

Can I end a race early?

On the Watch, press and hold the race screen and choose End and save.

Account and subscription

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then HypeLap. Or go to apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge. Deleting the app does not cancel it.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles refunds. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose HypeLap. We cannot issue App Store refunds ourselves.

I bought Pro but it says I don't have it.

Tap Restore on the paywall, signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy. If it still does not unlock, email us your Apple ID email (not your password) and the date of purchase.

How do I delete my account?

See Delete your account. It removes your profile, history and data.

How do I change my character or photo?

Tap the pencil on your profile photo in the You tab.

Safety and reporting

Everyone should feel safe cheering and being cheered. Read the Community Guidelines. Runners can mute or block any fan from the cheer card, and anyone can report a message or voice note. If someone is in danger, contact local emergency services first.

System requirements

  • Runners: iPhone with iOS 26 or later; Apple Watch with watchOS 26 or later for wrist tracking.
  • Friends: any modern phone or computer with a current browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox). Voice notes need a browser that can record audio.
  • Android runner app: not available yet. Friends on Android can watch and cheer on the web.
